Walt Whitman, ‘The people’s poet’ is perhaps the most individualistic liferary figure that America has ever produced.
In the poem the poet is speaking about the love he possesse for America.
He is essentially an American. He possesse all the characteristics of an American. His heart, mind and everything including his body is made of the soil.
He is born of American parents, who too were born of Americans. He proudly signs of American and he promised to go on a singing till her death, what he has been singing for the last 37 years the poet says that the teaching of religious sands and philosophers are good but he would like to disconnect his association with them for the time being. He likes to allow nothing to ‘interfere’ with his union with nature. He wishes nature speak to him with all its pristine Glory, energy and power.
